Middletown Grocery Club Starts; FISH Expands

Hardworking volunteers from Tree of Life Lutheran Church in Middletown worked with LCS to start our sixth Grocery Club – the first in Middletown. Support came from the student-lead FISH Grocery Club at St. Paul’s in Newark. FISH, which stands for Fellowship In Serving the Hungry, was originally funded mostly by a Thrivent grant. Now, the students have taken on the fundraising challenge. They were so effective at it that they were able achieve their goal of making a make a large donation in support of the Tree of Life Grocery Club, which made its first distribution on Friday March 16. On the same day, the FISH club unveiled its expanded distribution, which will take it from serving 35 to 50 families! Both of these Grocery Clubs are operated under the LCS organization, direction, and membership in the Food Bank of Delaware.

“Room at the Table” Captains Out and About

LCS’s annual free fundraising breakfast has been scheduled for May 2 at the Dupont Country Club. Over 30 Table Captains and Hosts are out inviting their friends, neighbors, and co-workers to come and enjoy the celebration. We hope everyone invited says “Yes!” The breakfast is being co-sponsored by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans and a local firm MDavis Inc. Their support assures that the funds raised go directly to support LCS programs for low income individuals and families in our area who are hungry or facing homelessness. For info, call 654 8886.

Christmas Shop Funds LCS Housing Program

Lutheran Community Services is pleased to once again receive funding through the wonderful generosity of the Christmas Shop Foundation. This year’s grant is $6,000 to support the LCS Critical Needs Housing Project which is designated for low income folks who are spending 50% or more of their income for their housing.
