LCMS Grant
LCS recently received a grant for $8,000 from the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod World Relief and Human Care Domestic Program. With this grant, LCS plans to sustain the expansion of its emergency food, housing and utility assistance for families most affected by the current economic environment. LCS has been a Recognized Service Organization of LCMS for many years and has been well supported by it. Last year, we received $7,500. In trying times such as these we are very pleased that LCMS continues to help us achieve our mission of “Sharing God’s Blessings by Helping Others in Need.”
Plans for Annual Room at the
Table Breakfast May 4
LCS is excited to announce that Citibank has agreed to sponsor this year’s Room at the Table annual free fundraising breakfast at the Dupont Country Club on Wednesday May 4. That means that all of the funds raised will go to LCS – not to pay the country club. Over 30 people have agreed to be table captains and will be inviting people so that we can fill up the Country Club’s Crystal Ballroom for our 7th annual breakfast. We also mailed out postcard invitations to folks who have attended previous breakfasts. If you would like to come, you can accept a table captain’s invitation or contact LCS directly (654-8886, extension 105 or stindall@lcsde.org). This year’s breakfast will feature a brand new video funded by Barclay’s Bank.
What’s It Like to Be Evicted?
One day last month a local family was evicted by the Sheriff. They had come to LCS a few weeks before, and we had made a commitment of $1,500 to help them with their rent. The total amount they owed was somewhat more, so they were contacting other agencies – and dealing with their many other problems. But now, they were out on the street, suddenly homeless, with a padlock on their door. They returned to LCS. Program Director Sandy Betley went to work, documenting that all the pieces of this financial puzzle were in place. Then she contacted the landlord, who lifted the eviction order and told Sandy to tell this family that it was OK to return to their home. We wish all our cases had a happy ending like this!
