Fund for Women Grant Helps
HOME Expansion
LCS has begun to expand its home repair program for seniors known as HOME, which stands for Home Oriented Maintenance for the Elderly. A key part of this expansion is the receipt of a $7,000 grant from the Delaware Fund for Women. Our grant is intended to help older women remain independent by providing support in the form of subsidized minor home repairs, grocery clubs at specified senior housing locations, and rent/mortgage/security deposit assistance. The HOME repair portion of the grant is especially exciting to LCS. It was designed to make minor repairs that are too small for a contractor yet require skills that older women may not have. For their own safety, they need good locks, railings and doors. The program provides solutions to make life safer, healthier and more bearable for older disadvantaged women with less stress and turmoil for them. The Fund for Women grant timeline officially begins in July, but as a first step in expanding the HOME program, LCS has already hired a second home repair specialist. He has hit the ground running and is in the field performing home repairs for grateful seniors.

LCS would like to extend sincere thanks to all those who
participated in its annual Room at the Table fundraising breakfast at the
Dupont Country Club May 2. The turnout was awesome – 306. Wowed by the LCS
story and heartfelt client testimony, many who were there made generous
contributions so that LCS can continue “Sharing
God’s Blessings by Helping Others in
Need.”
