Fund for Women Grant
LCS has received a grant for $13,125 from the Delaware Fund for Women for our “HOME Repairs for Older Low-Income Women” project. That project is an expansion of an existing program – Home Oriented Maintenance for the Elderly (HOME), which employs four part-time home repair specialists. The grant will provide free or low-cost home repairs for 50 older low income female homeowners so that they can live independently, safely and securely.
Annual Breakfast Results
LCS had a very successful annual Room at the Table free fundraising breakfast on May 4 at the Dupont Country Club, thanks to our table captains and the over 300 people who attended. The majority made donations or multi-year pledges. Altogether, the breakfast raised nearly $150,000 for LCS, which was very much needed in light of growing demand and expenses.
UD Lutheran Students Get
Community Service Awards
Three University of Delaware student leaders – Alexandra Bayles, Jacalyn Diottavio, and Sara Mann – received City of Newark Community Service Awards in May as a result of their work on the FISH food distributions and related outreach programs at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Newark. All are members of Lutheran Campus Ministry. The monthly FISH distribution is one of 12 separate emergency food distribution operations overseen by LCS.
Vote for LCS!
LCS has been nominated to share in a $1,250,000 fund for nonprofits created by Vivint Inc., a home security firm formerly known as APX Alarm. All we need now is votes. You can vote once a day by going on the internet to www.vivint.com/givesbackproject. The top 20 eligible charities (those that receive the most endorsements/votes) in each of the five regions will be named as regional finalists for the top local charity award.
