Calling All Duffers – Gimme Shelter!
Tournament Director Larry Friday says there is still time sign up for the Gimme Shelter Golf Tournament but you better act fast. If you are interested, call Larry at (302) 438-1290 or email him at fridayla@msn.com. The tournament benefits LCS’s emergency housing program. Last year, it raised $11,000, which was much appreciated especially by the low income folks that LCS was able to help with it. The tournament is held at the Chesapeake Bay Golf Course in North East, Maryland, on Monday, May 16. This event always gets rave reviews from golfers.
Two New Spanish-Speaking Staff
at the LCS FAITH Center
LCS has been without a bilingual staff person for several months and we were feeling bad that we couldn’t communicate better with Latinos. So we prayed. Now we have two bilingual staffers!
- Kathy Swanson joined the FAITH Center staff in April as Assistant Program Director. She recently moved to this area from India, where she and her husband Daniel – who’s the new pastor at Hope Lutheran – had been working for several years. Kathy has major experience working with Spanish speaking populations in New York and Minnesota. She has even been a translator and interpreter. In India she was an English teacher, and she has just received her MA in Education.
- Johanna Vazquez is the newest addition to the FAITH Center staff, where she will be the Receptionist/Intake Coordinator. She is filling the position of Ms. Elizabeth Fountain who retired at the end of April. Johanna attends Del Tech. She has solid experience in customer service and excellent office skills (including database management). She is also bilingual, which will allow the FAITH Center to cast its net wider as we work to alleviate crises in the Latino community.
